Scary face doll finished:)

As follows from the post name - she's finished. And she has a scary face:))
I don't think I remake it once more - to do this I need to mix the colors again so that it matches the body and it's quite a job. I shall quit making dolls from plastic leftovers and by doll-appropriate plastic someday. Anyway. Her "code name" is Fawn-doll. It's my evil sarcasm.. I'm quite satisfied with the body. The proportions suits just fine and she's very posable. There are some mistakes and that's why she can' stand on her own and quite clumsy. But overall the poses are pretty "human".
I think it's a good first experience and I see know what can be done differently. I'm busy doing clothes and shoes for her, so I suppose you'll meet her again fully dressed soon)

My husband always laughs on the pose below. He calls it "anti-sex". Indeed, I find it very laughable as well:)

And here is the better head (i decided to go with the vampiric one, just changed the eyes, so she looks more human). This one, on the other side, seems quite sad. But it's much more smooth. At least I know now what to do to make it smooth :)

I have ordered natural doll's hair, so my next doll won't have these troubles with hair style.

flats tutorial

Hi dear mini-fellows:) Someone asked me in comments to show how I made flats for the girl's room scene. I suppose it can be done much easier and I would love to learn other ways to make shoes in 1/12 scale or less, but here's what I came up with. I've tried to make this tutorial as detailed as possible because sometimes what you think is simple is actually not so easy to understand. Well, let me start. Here's what you need: cloth (I use patchwork fabric, because it has neat print and is pretty thick), glue PVA - the white thick glue in the cream-bottle. what's the analog in your countries? is tacky glue the same? it is glue suitable for paper and cardboard mostly. It takes some time to dry but once it does it makes paper or fabric much harder, translucent crystall glue for different materials. UHU has the same for woodwork and other staff. you need to apply glue on both sides, wait couple of minutes and press them hard together - they are instantly glued with very high adhesion, thread for finishing touches, thin paper and cardboard (I use any thin cardboard from small boxes, like boxes from medicines, cosmetics etc.)
 1. I draw the base of the shoes and the heels on a thin box cardboard (as you see, it's the lead from the used box)
 2. put them together and glue with PVA glue - it's perfect for cardboard
 3. Here are patterns for inner side (insoles) and tips of the shoes on a simple thin paper (like the one you print staff in the office)
 4. make sure it suits as you wish it to. cut it to size if needed
 5. cut two thinnest lines for back side of flats from simple paper
Yes, they are thin and small :)
 6. I glue them to the left side of the fabric with PVA glue. As I said, it'll be much harder once dried and the glue prevents the fabric from ruining.
 7. while glue dries, paint the soles

 8. cut the patterns from fabric. The soles shall be cut to size, while the tips and the backs need more fabric to cover the edges.
 9. The backs shall be covered both sides with fabric
 10. here are finished back sides and an example of folding the tips. I glue fabric to tips with crystal glue because it's very hard and messy to try to glue them with not-an-instant glue.
All the parts ready to assemble.
 11. the insoles are glued to the base
 12. I glue one side first, wait for it to dry and only then glue the other - this way it's much easier to keep them in place where needed
 13. Tips are glued. It's time for backs.
time to cover all the small wholes and threads that accidentally came out.
I dip the thread into PVA glue, remove the glue excesses with a paper towel or simply with fingers. This way the thread will stick to the shoe and preserve the form when dried. I didn't make photos of wrapping the shoe - actually its up to you :)
I hope it was useful for anyone out there :) Cheers!

Giveaway!

Hi there!
I really want to thank everyone for reading my blog and giving me inspiration:) Making minis is a very rare hobby here in russia (I can find noone in my city and our population here in Novosibirsk is more than one million, you know, so you can imagine how rare it is :) )
I'm glad I came to the blogosphere, because here there are always people who give you a warm welcome and great advices. I might fall out of minis for some time soon, when my baby'll be born (Haven't I told you yet? I'm having another girl! So I'll be a mother of two wonderful daughters soon :))) My due date is in the middle of June, but my doctor says it might happen earlier, so I need to be ready almost any time :)

Anyhow, enough with personal staff.. What was I saying? Ah, the giveaway!
I'm only a beginner, so don['t judge too much - I'm sure there are some projects out there where these things  would suite just right. Here's what I offer:
 These are:
1. some strawberries, lemons and apples for those who prefer healthy lifestile  :)
2. New pair of flats for a chils in your house (I've made step-by-step photoes of the process, so I'll show you how I made them later)

3. Watercolors of a cute little bird in berries (I've drawn in some time ago but it just didn't fit into any of my projects. I like the birdy though and hope it'll find a new warm home)
 4. Some chocolate-chip cookies, lemon cupcake, and two loafs of bread for those who prefer something more serios than apples
5. And, as I promised, the winner gets to choose one of the bears. You can take a closer look on them here

There are no rules for this giveaway - just leave a comment to let me know you want to participate :)
The link to my blog on your sidebar is optional, since I mainly want to thank those of you who followed and supported me from the very beginning :) However, if you are a new follower and want to participate - don't be shy - I am always happy to see new faces :)

The drawing would take place on the 9th of may (we have a day off here in Russia, but 10th of may I'll be already able to send it out to you)

I want to appologize in advance for our post services. This year I was waiting for my parcel from China for 4 month, so, unfortunately, I can't tell you the date when your minis arrive to you.

So, feel free to participate and have a great week :)

Some cuteness

Hi mini-people!
The work on my doll is in progress (body almost fnished - need to polish places where joints will sit) I've made already two heads. One of them looks better on it's own but is a little big (about 19 mm) for the body. The other one looks like a vimpire :) And not a pretty one, like in twilights, but the evil one :)))
That is why I decided to bring some cuteness to the world as well. Here are 3 little bears. I'm still bad in photography. so believe me, they are better in real life. I'm planning to organize a giveaway next week (while I still can get to post office). Among other things the winner will get to choose one of this bears.

Some finished photos and my current occupation

Hi folks!
I was absent for some time - that is due to the rest I need to have each day, according to my doctor. I must force myself to lay during the day now - there's so many things I wanna do and so little power in my body right now :)
Anyway, here's some photos of finished roombox under the daylight. Unfortunately it's still gloomy and rainy here (couple of days ago it was snowing so I have nothing to complaint about actually:)
There's nothing new - only the tiny flower on the window-sill. But at least now it's all set and done and I won't be adding anything else:)

And here is what I am busy with. The idea was sitting in me for some time: I want my doll. On some blog of yours I see dolls that make this mini-journey with you. They "help" you do you work and evaluate the results. They have their own character. And I want such mini-helper of my own. I must say: I am fascinated by the process. She turns out the way she wants - not me. It's so exciting! I'm not showing you other parts and the head because I'm not sure if I keep the existing version or re-do it. But the part here is finished and it is so amazing:) (I'm not thinking too much of myself though - I see a lot of much more beautiful work - but we all need to start somewhere, right?) That is my first ball-jointed doll and I want to understand the basics on her. I'll do better anatomy on later attempts.
What I can say: she is tiny. she'll be approx 13,5 cm high. With the head of 17 mm. Right the size of 1/12th mini-doll, so that I can make my future projects for her :)

Have a great week!
I'm stopping by by all your entries - you all inspire me :)

little additions

first of all I want to say thank you all for all your lovely comments:) I do not answer them all because it would be an endless "thank you-thank you-thank you" posts :)
second, I want to say special thanks to Wendy who gave my blog an award. Thanks, Wendy! It's the first award for me and I feel very honored. However, the conception of an award-free blog is closer to me so I just give this prize to all my readers (and many others that I read, who still don't know about me :)
Now for the additions part :)
It seems I'll spend this whole week on this project since it appeared to need more details. However, here's what I made so far:
Shelf with necklaces. It's made of the same cardboard I've made books of. And toothpicks for tiny hangers. I like how it turned out. It's very easy and quick. If anyone wants to see how-to - let me know and I'll make another one with the photos of the process:)
 2. slippers and matching shoes for the dress. I didn't find a tuto on this one so I had to "invent the bycicle" all by myself. I'm quite pleased with the result, but if you take a real-life closer look you can see glue on flats. So I need more practice.

 3. Last but not least. Something I am actually proud of: watercolors.
I didn't invent the design I need an example to see where some details, which I can't draw from my head. As an excuse I can say that I do not copy the initial picture - I just need to see some basics: where the shadow go, or what details shall I make accent on. That was actually the first picture that you see if you type "ballet dancer watercolors" in google. I just decided I wanted it to be in a little other colors. I hope someday I won't need work of other artists at all, but for now I need something to look at when I draw. Still I like very much how she turned out. She's certinly better in real light: much brighter.
